Drinking Vessels – Intermediate

Learn to make a wide variety of drinking vessels used all over the world. Whiskey jugs, beer steins, goblets, tea bowls, tumblers and flasks will all be covered in this class. Develop your skills in throwing taller and larger and experiment with more complicated handles and forms.

Open to all intermediate level students. Pre-requisite: Must be able to throw a cylinder confidently and with even walls.

Mugs & Cups Focus

Cups are the most straight forward forms you can throw on the wheel. However, wrapped up in the simplicity is a world of possibilities. From Japanese style tea bowls to mugs to tumblers, cups have an array of cultural and historical inspirations. From a technical standpoint, the skills required to master cups can be applied to nearly every other vessel. In this class we’ll explore throwing and trimming, surface options, handle making, throwing off the hump, and more. This class is open to advanced beginner and intermediate level students.

Surface Techniques – Intermediate

Create your forms on the potter’s wheel, then finish your pieces using unique decorative techniques! You will learn how to use slip to decorate greenware and create texture with tools, stamps, and other surface carving techniques. We’ll also experiment with glazes and explore a variety of ways to use them. This class is perfect for intermediate students interested in learning more about surface design.

Intermediate Pottery

Improve your technique and develop your style. In this class, you’ll make larger, lighter, well-balanced pieces as you explore the complex relationship between form and function, as well as the importance of trimming and finishing. Glaze application and alternative finishes will also be covered in more depth.
