We’re hiring a Design Instructor!

Responsibilities:

The Berkeley Art Studio Design Instructor is responsible for teaching design classes, focusing on a variety of design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. The Instructor leads classes two to four times a week in the evening (5-10pm). The Design Instructor will be trained in first aid and emergency care as necessary, and responds to user/customer needs.

Design Instruction:
Instructs design class participants in two to four classes per week from 5-10pm in the evening.
Instructs in such classes as “Graphic Design Fundamentals,” “Typography,” “InDesign & Illustrator,” “Web Design Fundamentals,” etc.
Maintains a supportive environment for program participants, which facilitates student learning and participation.
Interacts with program participants in a positive manner.
Develops knowledge of teaching methods, techniques and skills through continuing education.
Works with Studio Manager on developing class schedule, syllabus, and workshops.
Maintains clean lab space.

Schedule: Approximately four classes, evenings 5-10pm. This position runs for 40 weeks per year at approximately 4-10 hours per week.

Required Qualifications:

Education/Training:
Bachelor’s degree in fine art or graphic design required.
Bachelors or Masters Degree in graphic design preferred.
At least 2 years previous experience in an art-learning environment required.
At least 2 years teaching experience preferred.
Ability and interest in helping others learn design skills.

Knowledge and Skills:
Strong foundation in graphic design including extensive knowledge of the principles of print, typeface, color, layout, and production techniques.
Demonstrated professional experience with the design, layout, and implementation of final artwork into a visual product, including ability to conceptualize and storyboard ideas.
Strong working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite.
Experience working with MacIntosh computers and peripheral Apple devices such as scanners, printers, and digital cameras.
Demonstrated extensive experience and proficiency in industry standards of design, content management software, web publishing, and related web-based programs.
Requires verbal and written communication in the English language, active listening, dynamic flexibility, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills.
Able to exercise independent sound judgment and employ reasoning skills.
Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit, and creative thinking.
Must be able to successfully pass FBI and DOJ Criminal Check.
