Beginning Darkroom Photography(Spring)

Learn the increasingly rare art of black and white darkroom photography! This course will teach you how to properly expose your film, process negatives, and print black and white photographs. No prior darkroom experience required. During the session, you will have full access to the darkroom outside of class time.

Basics of Sewing, Mending, and Alterations (Spring)

This class covers basic hand sewing and garment construction (and deconstruction) techniques through a combination of lecture, demonstration and hands-on activities. By the end of the session, students will learn basic hand sewing techniques for mending, alterations and garment customization. These skills help extend the life of favorite garments, alter them to fit better, or customize/repurpose items according to your own design. We begin with hand sewing and will conclude with machine sewing in the final weeks of class. Machines will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own working machine to learn on.

Learn the basics of this fine medium, understand the effectiveness of drawing techniques, and get a formal introduction into the process of creating imagery all on your own. Subjects discussed will include line quality, shading and gradation, cross hatching, and contour drawing. This class is open to all levels.

Learn the basics of sketching, understand the effectiveness of drawing techniques, and receive a formal introduction into the process of creating imagery all on your own. Subjects discussed will include line quality, shading and gradation, cross hatching, and contour drawing.  This class is open to all levels.

Screen Printing(Spring)

Discover the fun and flexible medium of screen printing! In this course, you will learn how to turn your designs into stencils, experiment with layering and aligning, and how to reclaim and reuse screens. This class is open to everyone! Beginners will learn the fundamentals, while more experienced printmakers will have time to print and learn more advanced tricks.

Plants & Animals in Pen & Ink (Spring)

Learn the tricks and techniques of Pen & Ink! We’ll explore the in’s and out’s of working with ink and applying it effectively with brush and pen. Topics will include drawing animals in their natural environments, botany and anatomy, texturing, composition, and illustration. This course will offer insight on a variety of styles and encourage individual art enrichment. All levels are welcome.

Intermediate Pottery(Spring)

Create your forms on the potter’s wheel, then finish your pieces using unique decorative techniques! You will learn how to use slip to decorate greenware and create texture with tools, stamps, and other surface carving techniques. We’ll also experiment with glazes and explore a variety of ways to use them. This class is perfect for intermediate students interested in learning more about surface design.

Pre-requisite: Must be able to throw a cylinder confidently and with even walls.

Dive into clay with our introductory pottery class! Learn the ins and outs of throwing one-of-a-kind ceramics pieces and explore the basics of finishing and glazing your work. No previous experience with clay is necessary.
