Photoshop Collage Workshop(Spring)

Learn how to take your digital art to the next level with an introduction to Photoshop by making an epic movie poster. In this course you will get to work basic photoshop tools and use them in different ways to edit, adjust and combine various images and text to create a cohesive poster. We will cover several techniques on masking, creating layers, working with blend modes and combining text using different workflows. You will be spending the class listening to lectures, observing demonstrations and participating in hands-on activities and actual editing time.

Course Objectives
To develop an understanding of various work flow, tools, techniques, and processes offered by Photoshop. To create you own creative workflow of editing your images from various media and creating a final movie poster project

Course Requirement
– PC/laptop/iPad with Adobe Photoshop installed.

– Imagination and creativity

Street Photography Workshop(Spring)

Expand your skills and knowledge with this special course on street photography. During this class you will learn more techniques in capturing action-filled portraits. You will be spending the class listening to lectures on lighting, observing demonstrations on posing and participating in hands-on activities and on location shoots around the campus. Use different gear and tools to help you get the perfect shot!

Camera Requirement:
A DSLR or prosumer/mirrorless digital camera that has a manual exposure mode/
Camera manuals
Computer/ laptop/ notebook

Beginning Digital Photography(Spring)

Move beyond the automatic settings of your digital SLR camera and start creating works of art. During this class, you will explore basic photographic concepts of exposure, composition, lighting, and subject matter. Each week, you will learn a new aspect of the photographic process and share your work with the class.

This course includes weekly photo shoots in the field (@UC Berkeley campus) and live demonstrations.

Materials List: Digital SLR or digital point & shoot with the ability to change shutter speed and aperture.

Intermediate Digital Photography(Spring)

Develop your individual interests in photography and share your progress with peers. In this class, you will learn intermediate lighting techniques; explore Photoshop and printing techniques while building a body of work. This class is open to students with previous digital photography experience who are interested in developing their portfolio and receiving feedback from peers.

You will be spending the class listening to lectures, observing demonstrations and participating in some hands-on activities and actual shooting time. The focus of the course is using both available light and flash. You will be able to work in a studio environment as well as on location photo-shoot.

Materials List:

iPhone Photography Workshop(Spring)

Take your iPhone photography skills to the next level and capture stunning images. During this course, you’ll get technical with the iPhone and learn camera iOS settings and functions. You will also explore basic photographic concepts of exposure, composition, lighting, and subject matter. Finally, you’ll create your own closed loop photographic workflow of capture, edit, and post, all within the iPhone system.

The class will include live lectures, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and time to take photos.

Camera Requirement:

Photo Editing(Winter)

Learn how to take your digital photographs to the next level with an introduction to Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, the industry standards for photo editing.  We will cover several techniques, including editing images and making your own personal post production workflow.

 

Required materials:
Adobe Photoshop & Lightroom Software

We have 4 desktop computers in our lab with the Adobe Suite downloaded. These computers are reserved for community members, but if you want to work on your own laptop you must purchase the software.

Portrait Photography Workshop(Winter)

This course is designed for photographers who are interested in a deeper understanding of portrait photography. Class lectures will introduce students to different genres of portrait photography including street photography, documentary portrait, photojournalism, the environmental portrait and the photo essay. Through instruction and assignments you will develop strategies for getting the pictures you want. This includes learning techniques for working with subjects, controlling lighting to create mood and using location to elaborate the story you’re investigating. Students should already be familiar with the fundamentals of photography.
