Get crafty with us! We host free, drop-in arts & crafts workshops in the MLK Jr. Student Union. While the Student Union’s closed, we’ll be offering these events online. All Crafter Dark’s are Thursdays at 8pm.

September 24, 8pm: Mexican Tin Folk Art (Hojalata) Picture Frames

Celebrate National Hispanic-Latino Heritage Month this September by making Mexican-inspired Tin Folk Art (Hojalata). Learn embossing techniques and make a decorative and colorful picture frame, pin, or magnet that will brighten up your day.

Free supplies pick-up will be available at the MLK Student Union from Tuesday, September 22 to Thursday, September 24 from 9am-6pm. Go to the bNorth entry of MLK, located at the base of the stairs on Lower Sproul Plaza that lead up to Upper Sproul (See Map).

A limited number of supply kits will be delivered to the following residence halls:

Units 1, 2, 3, UVA, Manville, & Jackson House

Once you’ve signed up for the program, more pick-up details will be provided.

Materials needed:
Project may also be completed with materials found at home.

  • Embossing Foil (Kitchen foil also works)
  • Foam sheets with adhesive (cardboard also works)
  • Pencil
  • Permanent Markers
  • Scissors
  • Tape
