Learn essential knitting techniques. You will learn to read a pattern, cast on, knit stitch, purl stitch, decrease, increase, and finishing techniques while creating unique textiles. We’ll focus on skillbuilding, creating swatches or a sampler scarf. Patterns will be provided or option to bring your own pattern.
Required Materials:
For the first class please bring the following:
- set of size 8 or 9 circular knitting needle or straight needles*
- one ball of smooth yarn (not textured) worsted weight yarn in a light color (any light color, not navy or black)**
- scissors
- ruler
- tapestry needle
Additional materials:
- set of size 6 or 7 double pointed needles (dpn) and/or circular needle
- straight needles
*I learned to knit on metal straight needles. I now prefer wood because they are lighter, smoother, and quieter. Either will work.
**any wool or acrylic that suits your aesthetic and budget and meets the criteria above will work
Optional materials:
- gauge ruler
- stitch counter
- tote bag or plastic bag to store your knitting
- additional yarn and needles may be needed depending on your personal knitting and preference
- a pattern may be needed depending on your personal knitting and preference, select patterns will also be provided
- binder, glue
