Learn essential crochet techniques in this 7 week class. Starting from the basics ("chain stitch" and "single crochet stitch"), we’ll learn to read patterns and focus on skill building by crocheting swatches for techniques such as working in rounds, tapestry colorwork, and seaming. Support will be offered for students who want to work on an individual project outside of class hours, but this is not a project-based class.

Required materials

A starter kit of materials will be purchased directly from the instructor at the first class for $20. This kit includes crochet hooks (3.0 mm, 3.5 mm, 4.0 mm, 4.5 mm, and 5.0 mm), stitch markers, a tapestry needle, 50 g of worsted weight tube yarn, and worsted weight cotton yarn in two colors (50 g each). Additional yarn will be provided as needed for use in class.

Additional required materials

Small scissors – You can look for “embroidery scissors” or “snips”, but any relatively small pair of scissors is fine.
Pen or pencil
Highlighter
Bag for your crochet supplies – a basic tote bag is fine, you don't need anything specialized.

Optional materials

Additional yarn if you want to work on a project outside of class.
Crochet hook(s) appropriate for your additional yarn.
